Join Dr. Lee Ann Jung in this 8-week course. Participants will take their current knowledge of healthy assessment and grading practices and explore advanced application topics that will increase their capacity to lead continuous assessment and grading improvement in their schools, including in online environments. The course is designed for those with significant knowledge and experience with moving away from traditional assessment and grading practices to those centered on proficiencies, competencies, or standards. In particular, this course focuses on the multiple ways to improve the quality of assessments and ensure their validity.

Three series of three interactive online workshops addressing critical issues in school governance.
Teams of Trustees and their Head of School (5-6 school-based teams*; minimum of 3+1 team members)
School-based teams will:
- understand concepts and strategies related to essential responsibilities of the Board;
- reflect on how their own board practices align with these principles and develop/update action plans for their school related to the critical issues addressed;
- share innovative ideas for meeting the governance challenges ahead, in particular those related to the pandemic.

Using Mathematics Critical Areas to Address Unfinished Learning and Deepen Student Mathematical Understanding
In this session, we will focus on the question, “ What strategies support using the “math critical areas” to address “unfinished learning” and deepen student mathematical understanding?”
Focusing on critical areas does not mean deemphasizing some standards. To deemphasize standards that seem beyond these critical areas abandons parts of the curriculum that are essential for deep conceptual learning. Each standard is not a new event, but an extension of previous learning. Mathematics is not a list of disconnected topics, tricks, or mnemonics; it is a coherent body of knowledge made up of interconnected concepts.
The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) Critical Areas for each grade level brings focus and coherence to the curriculum and guide instruction of ALL standards. This session will focus on using these critical areas to address unfinished learning and deepen mathematical understanding of foundational learnings.
While planning for the diverse needs of students is not new, the complexity and uncertainty of the current educational landscape requires action. Develop an intentional plan now, and make a world of difference to student mathematical learning for the next school year and beyond.
- Examine the critical areas and major clusters across grade levels to discover both the connection and progression of related standards.
- Explore how a focus on the critical areas allows depth in learning, which is carried out through the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
- Identify resources to assist with assessing student progression toward mastery within the Critical Areas of Focus.

Teaching Science Remotely - Elementary (grades K-5) NGSS
This online workshop will focus on the best practices of remote and face-to-face science instruction including; modeling instruction, argument-driven inquiry, phenomenon-based instruction, and the science and engineering practices contained in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Elementary teachers will engage in scientific inquiry that is guided by authentic assessments and best practices. Phenomena and inquiry will target specific K-5 Performance Expectations.
