Governance Workshops Fall 2020

What:   
Three series of three interactive online workshops addressing critical issues in school governance.

Target Audience: 
Teams of Trustees and their Head of School (5-6 school-based teams*; minimum of 3+1 team members)
 
Outcomes:  
School-based teams will:

  • understand concepts and strategies related to essential responsibilities of the Board; 
  • reflect on how their own board practices align with these principles and develop/update action plans for their school related to the critical issues addressed; 
  • share innovative ideas for meeting the governance challenges ahead, in particular those related to the pandemic.

When
The governance workshops are being offered at three different times, for the convenience of    
schools and board members .  Participating teams are invited to register for one of the following series of workshops:

  • Series B
    • August 20, 2020      6:00 pm – 7:30 pm EDT        The Role of the Board
    • September 3, 2020    6:00 pm – 7:30 pm EDT        Fiduciary Accountability
    • September 17, 2020    6:00 pm – 7:30 pm EDT        Being Strategic   
  • Series C
    • September 1, 2020      6:00 pm – 7:30 pm EDT        The Role of the Board
    • September 22, 2020    6:00 pm – 7:30 pm EDT        Fiduciary Accountability
    • September 29, 2020    6:00 pm – 7:30 pm EDT        Being Strategic   

       

Model

  • Zoom utilization (participants connecting individually from their locations)
  • Proceedings conducted in English with accompanying Spanish language support via Chat function 
  • Process:
    • preparatory pre-reading/activity (requiring ~ 30 minutes sometime prior to workshop)
    • presentation of core concepts and strategies by consultant (interactive)
    • prompt by the consultant providing guidance/structure for action planning
    • review/update/develop concrete “to-do” strategies by each team (in break-out rooms)
    • reconvene and each team shares its plan (interactive)
  • Follow-up – consultant available for limited email consultation
