Description:
Join international education consultant Shelley Hawkes for a dynamic workshop series designed to help educators deepen their understanding of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and strengthen their practices across academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning (SEL) at Tier One. Through a blend of practical strategies, reflection, and evidence-based tools, this series empowers educators to create inclusive, supportive, and effective classroom environments where all students can thrive. Each session focuses on building strong universal supports, the foundation of MTSS, so that schools can proactively meet the needs of every learner.
Session Breakdown:
Session 1: Building Strong Tier One Foundations for Academic Success
Are you looking for practical ways to strengthen your academic instruction and better support all learners in your classroom? Join international education consultant Shelley Hawkes for an informative session designed to clarify what effective Tier One academic practices look like and how to make them accessible to every student. Participants will explore the MTSS framework, with an emphasis on the critical role of universal academic support as the foundation for student learning. Shelley will guide educators in using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to design high-quality, evidence-based lessons that promote active engagement. Educators will also reflect on their current instructional practices and identify next steps to enhance academic outcomes for all students.
Session  2: Universal Behavior Supports That Foster a Positive Classroom Climate
Struggling to manage student behavior while maintaining a positive and productive learning environment? Join international education consultant Shelley Hawkes for a session focused on establishing effective Tier One behavior supports that create safe, inclusive, and consistent classroom climates. Through a combination of reflection and practical strategies, participants will explore how to build classroom norms and routines that promote trust, predictability, and shared responsibility. Shelley will share evidence-based tools for setting clear expectations, responding to behavior with empathy and consistency, and encouraging prosocial behavior across diverse student populations. Educators will leave with a stronger understanding of how to prevent behavioral challenges and promote student belonging through thoughtful, proactive systems.
Session 3: Integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into Everyday Practice
Wondering how to meaningfully incorporate social-emotional learning into your daily teaching practice? Join international education consultant Shelley Hawkes for an interactive session that explores how SEL can be seamlessly integrated into classroom routines and academic instruction. Educators will examine how SEL aligns with MTSS to support students’ emotional regulation, empathy, and relationship-building skills. Shelley will guide participants in identifying core SEL competencies and embedding them into everyday learning experiences. Using a practical SEL “recipe,” teachers will develop custom lessons tailored to their students’ needs. The session also highlights strategies for fostering social awareness, self-awareness, and a strong sense of community within diverse, international classrooms.
