Mindful Community School (MCS) Learning Labs: Harnessing the power of Personalized Learning.

Mindful Community School (MCS) Learning Labs: Harnessing the power of Personalized Learning.

Since its initial implementation in 2016, MCS Learning Labs has become a vital part of our initial efforts in personalized learning. The learning labs provide opportunities for students to work on their math and reading skills targeted to their individual needs and abilities, regardless of their current grade level. Designed to nurture independence and confidence, sessions in the lab give every student the opportunity to receive individualized support while developing resiliency and a growth mindset, key components in nurturing a love for learning.

Learning Labs are part of the school's 6-Day Schedule. Early Childhood Students (K-2nd grade) attend lab sessions twice during each cycle. One session focuses on math skills, and the other focuses on developing their English language. Elementary Students (3rd-6th grade) attend lab sessions three times each cycle, covering math, reading, and language skills. Lab proctors encourage students by giving rewards for their efforts and progress, creating a motivating environment. They also share students' progress with teachers to help inform classroom instruction.

Over the years, the Learning Labs have changed the way students approach learning.  By combining technology, data, and support, MCS has created a learning environment where all learners feel supported and capable of achieving success. The MCS Learning Labs truly embody the school's vision of Harnessing the Power of Personalized Learning.
