Student Vision, School Impact: Leading the Way to a Sustainable Future

Aligning with our school mission, we aim to empower students to lead exploratory courses that help them discover their passions. Seeking ways to practice sustainability concepts and embrace global citizenship, a group of students proposed and launched the Sustainability Exploratory course last year. Led by a senior and a junior, the initial mission was to raise awareness in our learning community about the importance of reducing waste and practicing green habits. To support this, they successfully proposed that the school acquire a composting bin. This exploratory course has been combined as part of our Service Learning Program.

Students enrolled are responsible for waste sorting and feeding the composter. In the process, they are expected to learn about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), apply Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and adapt these concepts to solve real-world problems.

The fertilizer produced by the bin will be used by our Business Management students to grow a herb and vegetable garden, which will then be sold to the school cafeteria and community. This learning experience successfully closes the loop, demonstrating a complete cycle of student-led, practical application integrated with our Service Learning Program.
