"The Elementary school at ISC, has been working with yearly themes since 2019. It all started when a teacher shared that a student was speaking negatively about his academic abilities in class. We decided to focus as a division on developing a growth mindset. This simple shift started what has become an integral part of our school year.
The yearly theme is accompanied by messages which are integrated within the school day. These are posted everywhere and teachers take ownership as to how and when they talk about it. In addition, there is a book basket at our Media Center which contains a curated list of titles directly related to each message.
This school year the theme is another IB learner profile: being communicators. Everyone is embracing this topic by having discussions, reflecting and sharing what it means to be communicators in real-life; whether in or outside of class, in the school's newsletter or on our social media on Instagram @queralesa
Previous themes and corresponding messages have focused on: mindfulness, kindness, global citizenship, wellness, and balance. These messages have become an integral part of Elementary at the International School of Curacao, making it a great place to teach and learn!"
